Feasibility!

Many people start with a business idea that has little to no chance of becoming profitable.  Start by looking at the big picture and determine if your idea has a reasonable chance of becoming a successful business. In a simple way, determine how much income will be necessary to pay the bills including your salary and still make a profit.

Starting With No Money!

It seems that many people never start in business ownership because they “have no money”.  I hope to dispel the idea that money is necessary to start your first business. In fact, I believe that starting with no money is more Godly and more common than you may think.

Frustration!

SquarePeg02

A friend I had not seen for several years told me, “I retired from a job that I hated for more almost 30 years!”. This type of frustration is not good.

In my first job after college, I would come home from work each day, sit in my easy chair, turn on the TV, and feel sick to my stomach. I was miserable.  I was very frustrated.   Without a very significant spiritual experience where I elected to make Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, I am confident that my life would have taken a very different course with some bad results.

Workplace violence is a very serious matter that we read about almost every day.  Hurting or killing someone at work seems to be the ultimate example of the frustration inside some people.

SquarePeg03

How to avoid frustration in the workplace:

  1. Develop patience – None of us are born with “patience” it is something that is learned.  We all  must recognize that change is not necessarily a speedy process.  I worked 9 1/2 years on my first job after college.  My first year was extremely frustrating, and if I had chosen to abandon that assignment I would have missed much of my business development.  But I started to learn “patience”.
  2. Look for good –  What you look for is a matter of choice, vision, and perspective.  What are you looking for?  I have been in many situations where I was sure my time would be wasted and I hate to waist time.  But when I looked for the good, I started seeing opportunities that seemed to have been previously hidden.  This normally resulted in a great experience.
  3. Learn to lead from the middle of the pack – You do not need to be the boss to lead others.  If you find yourself in a difficult and frustrating situation, learn to dig in and make something happen and others will follow.  Many people around you are also frustrated and are just waiting for someone to lead.
  4. Find your calling – There is a big difference between your job, your career, and your calling.  To me, the most important is “your calling”.  As we grow up in our spiritual world, we should find and develop our calling and then fit our job and career into that calling. If I had not clearly discovered my God given calling is to Marketplace Ministry, I am sure I would have frustrated myself and everyone around me as I tried to copy others.
  5. Don’t be afraid of failure –  Everyone has failed in various ways and situations. And, you will fail many times in the future.  Don’t fail in a scale that you can’t recover.  This is the primary reason people should start small and grow step-by-step.  Learn from each mistake and failure.

SquarePeg046. Get over it – Face it, life does not always play fair.  No one really cares that you are frustrated, they will just try to avoid you. God’s Word tells me that He is faithful and will not allow me to be tempted, tried, or tested beyond what I am able, but will with the temptation make a way for escape that I may be able to bear it.  Wow, what a promise.  Find the way out.
